This weekend the curtain comes down on Asylum as they coincide their 10th birthday celebrations with their final party ever. While they haven’t been that active over the last few year’s, it’s fair to say they have etched out a name for themselves in Leeds club-land folklore forever. Their line ups down the years were impressive enough to rival any of today’s multi-headlined weekenders, but the more intimate affairs at Mint Club, Sponge Studios and the infamous Apperley Manor parties are the one’s we’ll always hold dearest. Emerging at a time when Leeds’ club scene required a much needed kick up the arse, their carte blanche approach was a breath of fresh air; continuing the torch first lit by Manchester’s Electric Chair with an eclectic music policy that saw early bookings as diverse as Jazzy Jeff, Erol Alkan and Danny Krivit invited through the doors. Many a night descended into chaos as the cargo netting was frequently pulled down by joyous hands over a frivolous dance floor. It’s a shame the last hurrah won’t be taking place at Mint Club where it all began; but the line up is a stellar mix of Asylum mainstays. Headliner Kerry Chandler should pull in the new breed, but it’s the residents and long term associates that make up the foundations of Asylum where you can expect the best of the action to be at on the night…
Also essential this Saturday will be a visit to Outlaws Yacht Club who have Psychemagik playing. Perfect warm up for Asylum. Check the info here.
